Cars. Fashion. Design. Tupperware. Four mid-century topics from the female lens. A 1-hour talk given by four Denver women.

An in-person, 1-hour talk given by four Denver women, who are inspired by their vintage style, talent and savvy.

At this 4×4 talk, you’ll hear from four women on mid-century women’s journeys towards success:

Tish Gance on:

Damsels in Automotive Design of the 40s, 50s and 60s

Many amazing inventions came from some pretty sharp women of the era! Did you know that women invented windshield wipers, spark plug insulation, turn signals, and synthetic lubricants?? Or that Harley Earl of GM had the first of its kind all women design team? You’ll see your car in a whole new light, and appreciate some beautiful design while learning more about these pioneering women!

Erin Beherenhausen on:

Edith Head: Hollywood’s Fashion Paragon

Edith Head: With a degree in Romance Languages and zero experience, Edith Head managed to become Hollywood’s most requested costume designer for several decades, as well as an 8-time Oscar winner. Find out why she was a favorite of Mae West, Alfred Hitchock, Grace Kelly and more, and see how she shook up a profession that before her time was dominated by men.

Kimber Dempsey on:

Ray Eames: The woman behind some of mid century’s most iconic designs

Ray Eames was responsible for groundbreaking contributions in the fields of architecture, graphic design, textile design, film, and furniture. Ray and Charles Eames were a dynamic duo, but in life Ray received less credit, however posthumously she has been recognized for the creative force that she was.

Trish Tilly on:

Brownie Wise: Tupperware Extraordinaire

Earl Tupper invented the container’s seal, but it was a savvy, convention-defying entrepreneur Brownie Wise who got the product into the homes of housewives. Learn how the inventor and the saleswoman empowered the homemakers of the 50s and made Tupperware the icon it is today.
