Elsa. Mary. Vera. Grace. Four mid-century women who were successful in their own right. A 1-hour talk given by four Denver women.
A virtual, 1-hour talk given by four Denver women, who are inspired by their vintage style, talent and savvy.
At this 4×4 talk, you’ll hear about four mid-century women’s journeys towards success:
Grace Guslander, Manager of Coco Palms in Kauai, HI. A woman who single-handedly transformed Coco Palms into the legend it was, thanks to her remarkable instincts and business savvy.
Mary Blair, an American artist, animator, and designer. She was prominent in producing art and animation for The Walt Disney Company, drawing concept art for such films as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South and Cinderella. Thanks to Mary, her imaginative color style and design approach helped introduce modern art to Walt Disney and his Studio.
Elsa Schiaparelli, an Italian fashion designer whose greatest rival was Coco Chanel. Her imaginative designs and artistic collaborations with prominent era artists propelled mid-century haute couture fashion and design.
Vera Neumann, an American artist and entrepreneur who started by designing silk scarfs and built a mid-century brand phenomenon. Her inspiration and business acumen became the blueprint for modern, artist-driven product lines like Martha Stewart and Tory Burch, among others.
This talk is Denver Modernism’s first 4×4 talk format: where 4 Denver locals talk about their favorite mid-century icons. This talk features 4 Denver women who are active in the local mid-century community.
Our 4 speakers participate together in an organization called LUPEC. For 14+ years, the Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC) meet monthly to preserve libations and engage in conversation among an ever-growing circle of lady friends.
Denver Modernism Week, on behalf of LUPEC, will donate 20% of proceeds from this talk to Safehouse Denver, a non-profit organization that serves survivors of domestic violence and their children through an Emergency Shelter, a non-residential Counseling & Advocacy Center and an Extended Stay Program.
